The X-Files: I Want to Believe
Saw The X-Files the other day with hubby. Didn’t expect anything much from it. However, I must say that it’s not really memorable for some reason. I find it disturbing in some parts, which I’m going to tell you soon. All in all, I’ll give this movie a 6.5 rating out of 10.

The story:
We learn that the duo have now retired from the FBI. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is working as a doctor in a hospital and one of her patients is dreadfully ill and she’s wondering whether she should let him go to “die peacefully” after a while or whether she should try out a new series of surgeries. Meanwhile, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is brooding and cutting out newspaper clips in a house.
The FBI, however, needs Mulder’s help to find a missing female FBI agent. They’ve got some help from a “psychic”, an ex priest named Joseph Crissman (Billy Connolly) who were guilty of pedophilia. Joseph leads them to the place where he feels that the missing FBI agent was prior to being caught and brought somewhere else by the kidnappers. He believes that the FBI agent is still alive. Turns out that what they find is a severed arm of a man.
A string of other evidences are found one by one with the help of Joseph. Mulder, who is at first reluctant to help out, is now getting caught deep “in the game” again. This bothers Scully, who feels that dealing with the FBI again awakens the darkest era of their lives. She doesn’t want to be involved in it anymore, but she can’t help being dragged into the case anyway, especially since in the end, Mulder gets caught by the bad guys.
Does the priest really have psychic powers given from God? Will they be able to find the missing agent? What will happen to Mulder? Dare Scully do the series of surgeries on her patient or will she give up?
Notes:
1. What’s disturbing in this movie is the part where they show that they can do a string of operations on severed limbs while keeping those parts alive prior to transferring those limbs to another body. I don’t know if you find something like this disturbing, though, but for me it is somewhat disturbing.
2. I’ve seen the X-Files TV series at least a few times before and I find that I liked the duo MUCH better in those series rather than the duo in this movie. I understand that the “tired” aura is needed since they’re no longer involved in the FBI for a long while by now, but I missed seeing their banters, you know?
3. Faith is really the theme in the movie. Give up or not? We have the choice and we should make the right choices. Keep the faith, people!!!
