2 Become 1
What do you think when you hear “2 Become 1″? At first I thought it was a romantic comedy about marriage. Wrong!!! The actual theme is breast cancer. Do I hear you gasp, ladies? Yes, breasts are such an important part of our lives that just hearing the phrase “breast cancer” is a horrible thing, isn’t it? But don’t worry, this movie won’t leave you feeling depressed or helpless.

The Story:
Bingo Leung (Miriam Yeung) is a thirty something single woman who works in the advertising business. You can say that she’s pretty successful and she’s enjoying life with her friends. One day she meets a man called V (Richie Jen) and they have a date. When they’re fooling around one day, V notices a lump on Bingo’s left breast. Since Bingo thinks that V is just a pervert, she throws him out of the house. She doesn’t realize that V is actually a psychiatrist.
Bingo, who’s now bothered with V’s words, decides to go to the doctor to have some tests. The test results show that she does have breast cancer and due to the location of the cancer, radical mastectomy of that breast is a must.
What to do now? Is Bingo ready to lose her left breast? Apparently not. She is afraid that no guy would want her anymore if she loses her left breast. So she decides to try out some type of alternative healing with the help of her ex boyfriend. However, you’ll find out later that the alternative healing is bogus. Now Bingo feels desperate and you can see her mood going down, though she tries to keep a cheerful exterior.
V tries to help her out since he knows it’s not going to be easy for her. Bingo even tries to kill herself, but in the end she always hesitates. Things at work are getting crazier and crazier as well, so at one point she even stops going to work. Meanwhile, she knows she mustn’t postpone the surgery, but she’s still scared.
What will happen in the end? Will Bingo do the surgery? Will she ever find love?
Notes:
1. I like the theme of this movie. I also like the fact that you can learn some things about breast cancer from this movie. This movie also reminds women to do breast check-up on your own every once in a while and that we should beware of any lumps.
2. I love the cheerful tone of this movie, though it stays realistic since Bingo does go through depression. And the movie also shows us the conflict in Bingo’s workplace and how she manages to deal with all of it. So I’d give this movie a 7.1 stars out of 10.
P.S. The original title of this movie is “Tin sut yut dui” (released in 2006 in Hong Kong).

Geez!
I encourage all of you girls to start doing early detection (by self-examining during bath, etc), especially those of you with relatives who did have breast cancer.
Happy movie reviewing everyone ^__^
Piot: Hey, gal, THANKS for visiting this blog and yeah…better be wary of any lumps rather than be sorry later! ;-D
