As a fan of horror movies, I’m always eager to watch many different kinds of this type of movie, even this low-budget one. All in all, it’s not too bad. The plot is clear and the tension build-up is good and you’ll want to know more and more, but since I could predict the ending already, I’ll give this movie a 6.2 stars out of 10 despite the fact that it’s only rated as 4.1 in imdb. It’s still worth watching, though I won’t buy the DVD! Btw, it’s rated R for language and some violence. 

The Story:

Danielle (Alanna Chisholm) is a university student with a delusional problem in the past. In the beginning of the story, we see her moving to an old house and she’s currently trying to write her thesis. Strange things happen one by one, such as moving objects. She feels that there’s someone else inside the house, but her elder sister Anna (Lauren Roy) doesn’t believe her words. She just thinks that Danielle is being delusional again, so she keeps on asking her if she’s stopped taking her medicine.

Upset due to not being trusted, Danielle even tries to videotape herself while she’s asleep at night. Anyway, in the house there’s an old wooden chair in the attic and as the movie progresses, The Chair starts doing stunts. Events lead to the discovery of a hidden room inside the house. What does she find inside? Evidence of a child killer named Edgar Crowe and a recording. She transfers the tape into a DVD and by watching it, she realizes that Edgar Crowe was buried alive after being mesmerized to the point of death by a guy named Mordechai Zymytryk (Paul Soren). Mordechai Zymytryk is a mesmerizer who trapped Edgar’s soul for a century.

What’s the relation between Edgar and The Chair? He used The Chair to kill children. He lured them to play with him and then he’d strap them on the deadly chair. The Chair was made in a certain way so that the strap around the child’s body got tighter and tighter every minute, so it was a slow, torturing death.

In the meantime, as Danielle gets more and more intrigued and obsessed to find out more about Edgar (since she wants to use this topic as the theme of her thesis), you can see her gradually being “taken over” by Edgar’s spirit. She brings back The Chair to its glorious days and then she ties up her sister, Ann, there. Then she lures a neighbour’s kid, Jacob (Nickolas Tortolano) to come and “play” with her.

What will happen to Ann? Will she meet her death on The Chair? Will Jacob die, too? Or can Danielle beat Edgar? If so, how does she do it?
