Babylon AD
Of all the movies with Vin Diesel as the main actor, I think this one is the worst of all. There are just some things I don’t understand from the movie and I don’t think the plot is too interesting to watch. In fact, it is somewhat depressing for me to see life on earth becoming this way. I’m not a fan of depressing futuristic movies like this one, so I’ll give this movie a 5.5 stars out of 10.

The Story:
The setting is in the far future. Toorop (Vin Diesel) is a mercenary and a Russian mobster named Gorsky (Gerard Depardieu) wants him to smuggle a woman to New York. Toorop used to live in USA, but for some reason he’s now on a black list, so Gorsky gives him a kind of neck injection that would make him pass the border in USA along with plenty of weapons.
So Toorop goes to get the woman, who turns out to have been living in a secluded convent her entire life. The woman’s guardian Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh) states that she will go along with them. The woman’s name is Aurora (Mélanie Thierry). As they strive to board the train and submarine to get them to their destination, they face plenty of dangers, so Toorop has to protect her along with the martial artist Sister Rebeka.
Among all the dangers they face, one of them is a group of people sent by Aurora’s father, Dr. Arthur Darquandier (Lambert Wilson). They offer Toorop 1 million to give Aurora up to them, but Toorop refuses to do that. They manage to escape from them.
Along the way, Aurora shows weird signs for someone who hasn’t been outside all her life. Sometimes it looks as though she were a human dictionary or a prophet. Sister Rebeka tells Toorop that Aurora can speak 19 different languages when she was 2 years old. She also says that Aurora began to act strangely ever since a doctor came to visit her three months ago. By this time, Toorop thinks that somebody has put virus inside Aurora’s body, so he vows to kill her and burn her body if that is the case.
When they arrive in New York, Gorsky contacts Toorop as well as the High Priestess (Charlotte Rampling). The High Priestess is the leader of the Noelites and the Noelites believe that Aurora is the solution to make their religion “big and mighty” in this world. The doctor comes by to check up on Aurora again, even though he doesn’t say anything to her. The “clever” Aurora knows that she’s pregnant and she’s carrying twins (even though she’s NEVER been with a man). She also knows that she’ll die when she’s given to the High Priestess.
So Toorop decides to save her, though that means he must die in the process. What happens next when they try to escape from Gorsky’s people and the High Priestess’ men? Will they die? Will Aurora have her babies?
Notes:
1. One part of the movie I enjoyed SO much was when Toorop and Aurora are on a vast snowy mountain and there are Aurora Borealis all over the sky. SO breathtaking! Then Aurora tells Toorop that on such a night, Sister Rebeka finds her as a baby, so that was why she was named Aurora.
2. In the movie there’re two Bengal tigers. I thought they were real tigers, but Aurora realized that Bengal tigers were extinct already years back. Toorop explains to her that they’re clones of CLONES. Geez…this movie is too advanced for my brain!!! So they’re COPIES of COPIES?????? That’s one reason why it’s hard to digest the information at the end of the movie about Aurora and her mother. If any of you understands it better than me, it’d be great if you can explain it to me fully hi hi hi hi hi…
