What do I think of this movie? Hmmm…if there haven’t been any movies of this sort, I’d say this is pretty good, BUT since this movie reminds me of some other older horror movies I’ve seen PLUS the ending is predictable, I’d give this one a 5.6 stars out of 10. It spooks me in one or two scenes, but the bad thing is that it leaves me with some questions at the end and it makes me feel somewhat unsatisfied. I find that the basic of the story is good, but it’s not really developed well.

The Story:

Photographer/artist Shawn Burnett (Andrew Bowen) is having an exhibition of his artwork. His heavily pregnant wife Helen Burnett (Maxine Bahns) comes by and she starts to show signs of contraction, so he takes her to the hospital. The ultrasound shows that there’s no fetal heartbeat. Helen has a hard time accepting it.

The scene then moves to a year later, when the couple moves to an old house in the countryside. Helen’s elder brother is a contractor that shows them the house. In front of the house there’s this worn-down cabin that looks pretty ugly compared to the house itself. While Shawn and Helen are busy painting the house and unpacking, strange things start to happen. Curious Shawn gets inside the cabin and something pricks him. The wound stays there for days on end, even after he goes to the hospital. He also begins to hear things and see images, like there’s somebody inside the cabin at night. A crow also begins to pester them. 

Then not long after that they find out that Helen is pregnant again, so they’re very happy. Helen is also curious about the cabin and when she goes there once, she sees a snake! Then a crow comes over and brings a ring. Helen picks it up and realizes that the ring fits her finger, so she wears it ever since. 

One day Shawn realizes that there’s a little boy who’s been snooping on them, so when he spots the boy and the boy runs, he runs after the boy. The boy’s father tells Shawn that the cabin used to be occupied by a conjurer in the old days and she’s considered to be a witch. When the owner of the house burnt the cabin years and years back, she made their family get sick. Only after he rebuilt the cabin again, his family members were healthy once more.

The biggest clue came from an old lady, the ex owner of the house prior to being bought by Shawn and Helen. She tells Shawn about the conjurer’s story. I’m not going to tell you what the story of the conjurer’s past as it’ll spoil the movie.

So what happened to the conjurer? Will Shawn and Helen be okay in the end? How about the baby?
