Silk (Gui Si)

This horror/sci-fi movie is rather interesting because of the theme. It has a good plot, spooky scenes, a surprising twist, and GREAT special effects. The only problem I have is the frustration I have towards one character, but before I tell you why, let me just write about it first. All in all I’ll give this movie a 7.3 stars out of 10.

Silk (Gui Si)

The Story:

A crippled scientist named Hashimoto (Yosuke Eguchi) has created a tool called the Merger Sponge to trap the energy of ghosts. He is so interested in learning about life after death that he has gathered a team to try to capture a ghost. He manages to do so by trapping the ghost of a little boy in a room in an old building and he sets up plenty of monitors outside the room to analyze the ghost.

In order to understand more about the ghost and his life before death, Hashimoto decides to hire Detective Tung (Chen Chang). Why? Because he can read lips. Hashimoto has made the right choice in choosing Tung. As the story progresses, we can see that Tung discovers that the little boy doesn’t like being stared at. If somebody stares at him, he will strangle the person to death. In fact, some of the members in Hashimoto’s team in the past had died because they stared at the ghost.

Anyway, they decide to open up the room to follow the ghost since they want to know more about his past. While following the boy, Tung has to be REALLY careful as to not stare at him. Why can Tung and Hashimoto and the members of his team see the ghost? The Merger Sponge gives them the ability to do so. To cut the story short, Tung finally finds out what happened to the boy and why he was dead. I’m not going to spoil it here, so you just have to see it to find out. Suffice it to say that you’ll feel so sad when you know what happened to him.

When the boy’s history is out in the open, you will then find out Hashimoto’s real motive in conducting the experiment. What is his real motive, then? What will happen in the end?

Notes:

1. I was amazed at the Silk Strands depicted in the movie. The silk strands look so real and believable. What are these silk strands? It will be too easy if I tell you what they are, won’t it? Wink

2. I felt SO frustrated at Hashimoto in the end. I can’t believe that a supposedly intelligent person like him makes such a bad decision. But then again, it is actually realistic, don’t you think? After all, even the most intelligent person on earth does make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. But still I wished that he would have known better…I just can’t help feeling that way he he…
