The 40 Year Old Virgin
Yeah, I know this movie was released in 2005, but I only saw it last night on TV he he he…I think Steve Carrell is the right choice to be the 40-year-old virgin, since he has that innocent face. It is fun in plenty of scenes, but I don’t think I want to watch it again. I think Evan Almighty and Get Smart (both starring Steve Carrell as the lead character) are more memorable than this movie. So I’ll give this one a 7 stars out of 10.
Remember that it’s rated R for pervasive sexual content, language and some drug use. —> I do think that this movie has a little bit too much sexual terms he he…

The Story:
Andy Stitzer (Steve Carrell), who is obviously 40 years old, works in an electronics store. He loves collecting action figures and playing games. (It’s not that he was never attracted to women. It’s just that he has had plenty of bad experiences with women.) One day his colleagues ask him to join them in playing poker. While playing, he brags about all the sexual encounters he has experienced, but he gets into big trouble when one of them asks about what it feels like to touch a breast and he says, “Like a bag of sand.” Then they realize that Andy is still a virgin.
So they try many ways to make Andy get laid. They ask him to go out with them to a pub, one of them lends him his porn collection, then they ask him to join Speed Date (where they can meet 20 people in 20 seconds or something like that). They even trick him into believing there’s a party in an apartment when actually they’ve hired a prostitute to sleep with him. Of course all these things fail to make Andy lose his virginity.
One day, a woman named Trish comes into the store to ask for prices of some electronics equipment and Andy is the one who has to deal with her questions. Through this conversation, Andy finds out that Trish has a store right across the store where he works in. Trish sells things in eBay and before leaving the store, she gives Andy her phone number.
After being challenged by his friends, Andy gathers her courage to ask Trish on a date, since he is truly interested in her. Andy is afraid of telling Trish that he is a virgin for fear that she might think he’s an oddball, whereas Trish hasn’t told Andy that she has three kids and the eldest kid has got a child already, so she’s practically a grandmother already (she’s around 40 years old).
What will happen between Andy and Trish? Will the relationship work out? When will Andy lose his virginity?
Notes:
1. One of the funniest scenes in this movie is when Andy and Trish are going to make love and Trish is in the bathroom and she tells Andy to put on a condom, but he doesn’t even know how!!! So he opens so many bags of condoms and then at that time Trish’s daughter and boyfriend come barging into the room and Trish’s daughter thinks that they have made love so many times judging by the many condoms left around the bed. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!
2. I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a virgin, whether you’re a man or woman. What Andy said at almost the end of the movie was really touching, but I won’t write it down here since it’ll spoil the moment he he he…You just have to see it for yourself to know what it is!!!

Really? You think Evan Almighty is better? Interesting… I’ve never seen Evan all the way through, but I LOVED Get Smart.
Grandy: Well, this movie may be funnier than Evan Almighty, though Get Smart is the funniest of the three. What makes Evan memorable for me are these quotations I get from it:
1. “How do you change the world? By doing one act of random kindness at a time.”
2. “If you ask God for patience, do you think He will give it to you just like that or do you think He will give you the OPPORTUNITY to be patient?”
3. “If you ask God that your family be closer, do you think He will give it to you just like that or do you think He will give you the OPPORTUNITY to be closer to your family?”
I very reluctantly watched the 40-yr old virgin on DVD last year… and was pleasantly surprised… it was pretty tolerable. I will always remember the getting waxed scene!!
Lynne: HA HA HA HA…I also remember it VERY clearly. I can’t believe he fell for his friends’ trick. It’s such a funny scene hi hi hi hi…:-D
