Childhood Memories: Somewhere in Time
When I was a child, Superman was played by Christopher Reeve. I remember my Dad taking me to a movie theatre to watch Superman movie (I think my Mom and younger brother stayed home as my brother was too small). So since then, I’ve loved Christopher Reeve as an actor. Especially after I saw him in “Somewhere in Time” when it was aired on TV. I don’t really remember the details of the movie, but this is one of the movies that has made a deep impression on me. In my young mind back then, the movie was VERY romantic and touching.

In short, Somewhere in Time tells the story of Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) who goes back in time to the year of 1912 by hypnotizing himself to be with the woman he loves, Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour). If I recall correctly, he can only go back in time for a certain period of time and then he comes back to his present life (maybe if he finds an object from his present life he’s then taken back there).
The end of the movie is bitter-sweet and I remember it clearly. Richard tries to go back in time by hypnotizing himself again, but this time it’s SO hard to do it. He tries it many days by lying down on a bed and in the end he dies. However, then you see his spirit going up to the sky and meeting Elise’s spirit and they are now finally together forever at last…
I should go and find the DVD as I really want to remember the whole story again he he he…Has anyone of you seen this movie? If so, what do you think about it?
Anyway, here’s the famous music score from this movie, entitled “Somewhere in Time”. I’ve always remembered this song ever since I saw the movie and it’s touched me so deeply inside…mmm…when you click on this youtube clip, the first 15 seconds you won’t hear a thing, but then the music starts.
Hey, I just found out that it’s based on a novel by Richard Matheson entitled “Bid Time Return“. Maybe I should read the novel, too, as I’m curious on how it’s like he he…
