Screamers: The Hunting

Published by ailema4ever under Sci-fi, Thriller Edit This

I’ve never seen the first sequel, so I had NO idea what the movie was before watching it. The theme is pretty common in this type of sci-fi movie: machines that evolve and turn against humans. I expected the movie to give me more, but I find that the action was lacking in some parts and the ending was also VERY predictable (it actually reminds me of one of those Aliens movie). The idea itself is not that bad and I could enjoy it, but I thought it could have been developed better than this. I’ll give this movie a 6 stars out of 10.

The Hunting

The Story:

It seems that in the first Screamers, two groups of humans were warring against each other in planet Sirius 6B. In order to win the war, one group decided to build this “Screamers” factory. Screamers are the type of killing machine that would hunt live beings (humans, rats, etc.) and destroy them. In order to escape their wraths, you have to wear a kind of electronic badge that sends off a signal that you’re a non-living being. However, these Screamers evolved and they wanted to destroy all the humans in the planet. Thirteen years ago, Colonel Joseph Hendrickson survived from the Screamers’ wrath and tried to go to Earth, but upon entering Earth, it is believed that he destroyed his own ship. Then everybody on earth believes that there is nobody left on Sirius 6B.

A group of people from Earth are now sent to Sirius 6B as they’ve received an SOS from somewhere in the planet. Their mission is to get the survivors back to Earth. The team consists of: Lieutenant Victoria Bronte (Gina Holden), Schwartz (Janna Pallaske), Commander Andy Sexton (Greg Byrk), Rafe Danielli (Christopher Redman), Madden (Tim Rozon), and Soderquist. They only have 7 days before they have to get out of the planet since Sirius 6B will be hit by a class 10 Magellanic storm. If they’re caught in the storm, they’ll be dead.

When they find the location of the survivors, they’re attacked by both the survivors AND the Screamers. When they try to go back to their ship, turns out that the only machinist, Soderquist, who was left in the ship, had been killed by the Screamers. The Screamers have gotten so smart that they manage to drain the ship’s fuel. So now they can’t go back to Earth before getting new fuel cells. Bronte then suggests that they should just go back to the survivors and ask for their help.

So that’s what they do and this time by ambushing Hannah (Holly O’Brien), who at first didn’t believe that they came from Earth to rescue the survivors. Hannah takes them to meet their leader Guy (Stephen Amell).  From the survivors, the rescue team finds out that the Screamers have evolved even further that they now look like humans. Meanwhile, the Screamers find out that they’re hiding with the survivors, so they’re hunting them all.

Who will survive and who will die? How can they get out of the place before the storm comes? Will they be able to return to Earth?
