Fido (2006)

Published by ailema4ever under Comedy, Drama, Horror Edit This

Saw this movie with hubby the other day on TV. It’s a pretty crazy/fun/wacky zombie movie. If you want to see zombies being used as house helpers, then this is the one for you. It’s not scary at all, though there are gory moments, too. Thus it’s rated R for zombie-related violence. I’ll give this movie a 6.8 stars out of 10.

The Story:

In the neighbourhood where most people have zombies as their house helpers (one person even has one as his girlfriend!), Helen Robinson (Carrie Anne-Moss) begs her husband to keep one as a house helper, as well. Since Bill Robinson (Dylan Baker) is a very busy father, his son Timmy Robinson (K’Sun Ray) is left to his own devices. He is considered an outcast among his peer group, so when the new zombie comes to their house, he make friends with him. He even names the zombie Fido (Billy Connolly). In fact, not only Timmy is the one who makes friends with Fido, but Helen also starts to care about him.

How do they control the zombies so that they don’t eat humans? By putting some kind of collar on their necks. The owners of the zombies are also given a remote control to help control them in case they get out of hand. Sometimes the collar doesn’t work too well and the zombie starts to get hungry for flesh. This happens when Timmy and Fido are playing outside in a park. Since Fido manages to kill one old lady, the old lady turns into a zombie and this creates chaos since there are more and more zombies in the neighbourhood.

What happens next? The zombie exterminators take Fido away ‘coz they find out that Fido is the one who creates all the problems. Timmy is also to be blame, but because the leader of the zombie exterminators is his neighbour, then he lets the family get away without any punishment. Timmy is sad now ‘coz he’s lost his friend Fido. However, he finds out that Fido isn’t exterminated. Instead, he’s taken to work in one factory, so off Timmy goes to find Fido.

What happens next? Will Fido be able to be together with Timmy again?

Storm Warning (2007)

Published by ailema4ever under Horror Edit This

This Australian horror movie follows one of the usual horror movie recipes: a couple get lost when they’re on holiday and they meet a group of crazy people. The only question is: will they survive or not???

Well, for a satisfying ending and bloody, gory moments, I’ll give this movie a 6.8 stars out of 10. Mind you, though, that it’s rated R for strong bloody horror violence, terror, gore, language, some sexuality and nudity.

The Story:

Rob (Robert Taylor) and his French wife Pia (Nadia Farès) go on a boating trip together, but they get lost when they try to get back to the pier. They end up in a small island inhabited by three guys named Jimmy (David Lyons), Brett (Mathew Wilkinson), their Dad Poppy (John Brumpton), and their fierce dog.

They find a small, messy house and there’s nobody inside, so they get in to find the phone, but to no avail. Then Jimmy, Brett, and Poppy get back home and they threaten to kill Pia and Rob if they don’t get out of their place. As usual, then Pia and Rob must try to get out of their clutches alive, since those three guys intend on making their life miserable, especially after Poppy finds out that Rob has seen their marijuana plants. So Rob and Pia are put in one big barn and there they try to use any tools they can find to fight for their lives. It’s also clear from the start that Pia is going to get raped, so how is she going to survive the attack when it comes?

Here’s the trailer:

Spoiler:

Since Rob’s leg is hurt, Pia has to prepare the necessary traps in the barn since she knows that Jimmy, Brett, and Poppy are going to kill them in the end. She has also prepared a bottle and sharpens one part of it to prepare herself for the “rape” that’s going to happen (I don’t need to tell you where she puts the bottle, right?). Anyway, the first person to come inside the barn is Brett. Rob and Pia pretend to be asleep and then they attack him. Brett ends up dead.

‘Coz Brett doesn’t come back to the house, Poppy tells Jimmy to check up on him and to bring Pia to him. So Pia follows him into the house and when Poppy tries to rape her, his private parts get cut off by the sharp edges of the bottle that Pia has prepared. He runs out to the bathroom and Jimmy comes up to find out what’s going on. Pia manages to run away from the house to the barn. Pia and Rob attack Jimmy, close the barn door, and try to run away with their truck. However, the key is missing, so Pia has to go back inside the house to get it.

Meanwhile, Poppy is able to get rid of the bottle from his private parts and he comes out to get Pia. Pia grabs the car key and try to turn on the ignition while Poppy is coming closer and closer. Pia and Rob are saved from Poppy’s clutch since their dog attacks Poppy. The dog thinks that Poppy is “edible” because it loves the smell of blood.

Jimmy gets out of the barn by force, but before he can do anything much, Pia manages to kill him. So both Pia and Rob are safe in the end. Smile

Boogeyman 2

Published by ailema4ever under Horror, Thriller Edit This

I’ve never seen Boogeyman 1 (not that I remember anyway!), so I had no expectation whatsoever about this movie that came on TV tonight. Well, since I don’t know anything about the first sequel, while watching this movie, I started wondering whether Boogeyman was really a person or a “monster-like legend”. Well, I got my answer at the end of the movie, of course he he…I think if you have no expectation about this movie, it’s okay enough to watch. At least I was involved in the movie enough so that I was frantic while the Boogeyman was after them and I wanted them to hurry to safety he he he…For that, I’ll give this movie a 7 stars out of 10.

Mind you that it’s bloody and gory in some parts (there’s a part where the Boogeyman “opens up” the chest of one person and rips out the heart) and there’s also a sensual scene!!!

The Story:

It begins with a family of four having dinner together and 11-year-old Henry Porter (Jarrod Bailey) is afraid to go to the toilet since the light is out in there. Henry has an 8-year-old sister named Laura Porter (Sammi Hanratty). Laura asks her Dad to fix the light and while he’s fixing the light, Henry and Laura see a black-hooded person kill their Dad. They believe it’s the Boogeyman. They run to another room and find their mother’s throat stabbed with a knife. Screams ensue…

Fast forward to 10 years later. Henry (Matt Cohen) is released from the psychiatric hospital since they believe he’s been cured of his fear of the Boogeyman. Laura (Danielle Savre) is so happy about the fact that she can be together again with her brother. She’s in fact still afraid of the Boogeyman, though she won’t admit it out loud. Once out of the hospital, Henry tells Laura that he has an interview the next day for a possible job in another city. Laura is upset since she’s afraid of living alone. The Boogeyman still haunts her dreams.

To make her feel safe, Henry escorts Laura to the psychiatric hospital where he was treated so that she can spend the night there while he has an interview. He promises to be back the next day to get her out of there. The hospital is a pretty strict place to be, so nobody can get in and out as they please. In the hospital there are patients who have some deep fears of different things.

1. Nicky (Chrissy Griffith) is afraid of being fat.

2. Darren (Michael Graziadei) is afraid of letting people inside his heart. He had a brief relationship with Nicky.

3. Alison (Mae Whitman) is a cutter. She finds release in her emotional distraught by cutting herself.

4. Paul (Johnny Simmons) is afraid of the dark.

5. Mark (David Gallagher) is hypochondriac (a clean freak).

The two doctors that treat the patients are Dr. Jessica Ryan (Reneé O’Connor - Gabrielle in Xena series)  and Dr. Mitchell Allen (Tobin Bell - yep, the Jigsaw in Saw series!!!). Dr. Mitchell is pretty harsh on the patients for some reason and Laura doesn’t like him. Anyway, one by one while Laura stays in the hospital, they’re forced to face their own fears by the Boogeyman.

Is it a real Boogeyman or is it just someone in a mask? Who will die and who will survive in the end?

Hatchet

Published by ailema4ever under Comedy, Horror Edit This

This 2006 movie boasts itself as a “good old American horror movie” that isn’t a remake of any other horror movie and not a remake of any Asian horror movie, either. So I was expecting something good, but turns out that it’s not that good except the fact that it’s bloody and gory. The theme of the story is fine, but there are some things that disturb me while watching the movie, which I’m going to tell later (but it’s related to some nudity). Anyway, this movie is rated R for strong bloody horror violence, sexual content, nudity and language. Overall I’ll only give this movie a 5.5 stars out of 10, because I’ve seen many more BETTER horror stories with better plots.

Hatchet

The Story:

In the beginning of the story you see an old man and his son on a boat, trying to catch something. The next thing they know is that they’re attacked by somebody. The scene shifts to a wild party in the city (you can see topless girls here). A group of friends have decided to join the party, though one of them isn’t really enjoying it since he’s just broken up with his girlfriend, so he’s kinda depressed. His name is Ben (Joel Moore). Instead of going to the bars and drink until they are drunk, Ben wants to go on a Midnight Boat Tour, since one friend has done that before and he’s told him that it’s an exciting experience.

Marcus (Deon Richmond), one of his friends, decides to come along out of pity. Off they go to book the tour, but the place is now closed. The owner of the place was sued for negligence during the last boat tour, so he has stopped doing any boat tours. So he tells them to go someplace else to book that kind of midnight tour. So they follow his advice. The guide of the boat tour is Shawn (Parry Shen) and the group of people who are joining them are: Mr. Permatteo (Richard Riehle), Mrs. Permatteo (Patrika Darbo), Marybeth (Tamara Feldman), Shapiro (Joel Murray), Misty (Mercedes McNab), and Jenna (Joleigh Fioreavanti).

Shapiro is a director of a porn movie and he keeps on asking Misty and Jenna to pose for him everywhere he goes. This is one thing that I don’t like from the movie. Anyway, Shawn drives the boat at midnight and then the boat gets stuck and it starts to sink. As there are gators (or crocs?) in the river, Marybeth pulled out a gun to help save Shapiro from being eaten. So they all manage to get to land and save themselves, but are they really safe?

Marybeth starts freaking out by then. Turns out she’s not interested in the boat tour at all. She’s actually looking for his missing Dad and father (the two guys who appeared in the beginning of the story). She’s worried that they’re dead, since she knows the legend of Victor Crowley, the owner of that place.

Victor Crowley was born disfigured and he’s taken care of by his father. Kids always teased him and threw stones at him. One day while Victor was in the house and his Dad was out, a few kids threw firecrackers at the house and it got burnt! Victor’s Dad came right on time and he tried to open the door with an axe. However, poor Victor was leaning so closely to the door that accidentally, Victor’s Dad hit him with the axe and Victor was dead. After that, Victor’s Dad got depressed. He never left the house and then he died of a broken heart. Legend says that Victor Crowley still roams around that area and you can still hear him calling his Dad for help.

True to prediction, the group of people could suddenly hear Victor’s crying out for his Dad. They turned around in the darkness and found out that they are actually very near Victor’s house. So now begins the cat-and-mouse chase. Will they be able to escape? Who will survive in the end? Are Marybeth’s Dad and brother dead?

As usual, here’s the trailer:

Unrest

Published by ailema4ever under Horror, Thriller Edit This

This 2006 movie is nothing special, though it has some “yucky bloody” moments. Hubby and I were eating garlic bread and we lost appetite when we saw some scenes he he he…I think this movie lacks something, but I can’t pinpoint what it is hmmm…maybe because I’m not entirely made curious by the story, though I SHOULD feel that way. That’s why I’ll only give this movie a 6 stars out of 10.

Remember that it’s rated R for violence/gore, nudity and some language.

Unrest

The Story:

Alison Blanchard (Corri English) has moved to a hospital to learn to be a pathologist. She is allowed to stay there since she doesn’t have enough money to stay elsewhere. The first day these medical students gather, Dr. Blackwell (Derrick O’Connor) tells them to make a group of 4 and choose their cadaver to examine. Alison joins a group of 3 guys that consists of Brian Cross (Scot Davis), Carlos Aclar (Joshua Alba - yes, Jessica Alba’s younger brother), and Rick O’Connor (Jay Jablonski).

When Alison sees the cadaver’s face, she throws up and loses consciousness. Though an atheist, Alison can feel things and she feels that the cadaver didn’t die a natural death. So she’s now “obsessed” to find out what happened to the woman. In the beginning of the movie, you can see the woman (who’s now the cadaver) cutting herself with a piece of glass. Alison’s journey to find out what happened to the woman is far from easy, since there are only a few people who know about the woman’s history. After all, a cadaver that is used for this medical purpose should come from a place far away from that location so that nobody in the class can recognize him or her.

Strange things start to happen as one by one the people who have touched the cadaver die of unnatural causes. Alison begins to doubt her beliefs and she begins to wonder if spirits do exist. Meanwhile, a relationship begin to be built between Brian and Alison. One day, Rick’s fiancee comes to the hospital since she wants to see cadavers. She’s just curious, that’s all. Rick agrees to show the cadaver to her, but when she touches the cadaver (at this time they have cut open the outer skin so you can see the liver and stuff), she feels that the body part is still warm. Rick thinks that she’s just making it up, but then the cadaver “moves” and she freaks out. She goes out of the room and dies of bleeding.

Rick is now becoming depressed, so he’s being treated in a special psychiatric room. After some time, you can see that he’s getting more and more deranged. He gives a note to the ward and asks him to give it to Alison, then kills himself. He bleeds to death on the spot. The note says “You Are Next”.

What will happen next? Will Alison and Rick die, too? What has happened to the woman before she died? Why did she cut herself?

The Midnight Meat Train

Just by reading the title, I could guess what it was about, though I didn’t expect the ending to be the way it was. This movie is shot most of the times at night and the killer in the movie only spoke two short phrases during the ENTIRE movie, so he mostly shows his “cruelty” by his gesture, body language, and facial expressions. Cool!!! This movie is also very gruesome and grisly in some places (rated R), so be warned!!!

This movie makes me wonder about some things that are revealed at the end of it, but when I found out that it was based on a short story by Clive Barker, I understood more why it was like that. And I also find some explanation about the ending, which you can find here. Overall, I’ll give this movie a 7 stars out of 10. I don’t like the ending too much, but still this movie shows you COOL angles of some scenes, so THUMBS up for that effect!!!

The Midnight Meat Train

The Story:

Leon (Bradley Cooper) is a wannabe professional photographer who is trying hard to be known. He lives with his girlfriend Maya (Leslie Bibb) in New York. Through a friend named Jurgis (Roger Bart), Leon is introduced to Susan Hoff (Brooke Shields), a gallery owner who has an eye for art. Susan gives Leon a few suggestions on how to take better pictures, so he follows her advice.

He begins to roam the city at nights to take better pictures to show to Susan. One night he sees a young woman being bothered by a gang of guys. He keeps on taking pictures of the incident and then he shows the gang that there’s a video surveillance camera that records the incident, so he manages to save the young woman. The young woman then gets inside the midnight train and there she meets her death. Leon manages to take a picture of the killer’s ring as the young woman gets inside the train.

When Leon reads the newspaper article about the young woman’s disappearance, he begins to worry. So he goes there again at night to find that guy. He follows the guy and takes pictures of him. Turns out the guy is a butcher who works in a meat factory. He tries to report his hunch to a police officer, but to no avail. He’s got no proof about anything.

So one night he decides to get inside the train along with the butcher. The butcher always waits for the last train to come and then he butchers all the people who are inside that last train. He then takes away their eyes, fingernails, and teeth. Then he hangs them upside down, just like the meat hanging in the meat factory. Leon is shocked by what he sees, but he manages to be brave enough to take pics of the whole incident.

However, of course the butcher finds out, since the train never stops in any platform except the very last one. The next thing Leon knows, he wakes up in a strange place with marks on his chest. He comes back home to a worried Maya and explains to her that he has just witnessed such an incident, but the camera is taken away by the killer, so he can’t go to the police.

Maya decides to investigate this with Jurgis. They decide to go to the hotel where the butcher stays in to get Leon’s camera and proof of the killings (Maya knows where he stays because Leon has taken so many pictures of the butcher, including when he follows the butcher getting inside that hotel).

Will Maya and Jurgis be able to find the camera? What is exactly going on? Why does the butcher do that? What for? Who will survive in the end and who will be killed? Expect plenty of twists at the end of the movie! Laughing
